Friday May 31

okay here is going to be todays update. Wednesday i had the whole day typed out but somehow it lost itself!? so I will post this one and then catch up here later tonight.

we tried to get up and around early this morning... well "early" is dependent on who is talking! but we did leave for Maguarichi fairly early. The road to Mguarichi sure has improved since we have been here last!! Wow! Paved almost all the way there! Doesnt make one feel nearly as tired by the time you get there!! Stopped first at Leticia's. She wasnt there but her son stopped on his way by and said she was at the store and we should go there. She has a store there now and so we went over and spent some time just catching up and passing the time. Alfredo soon was there too and he and Merv sat out on the curb chatting for a while. Carlos soon came by too. Made plans to go to Leticia's after stopping at Lupe's and then we would gather at the mission house for a time of singing. Wound our way up to where Lupe lives now. Things sure have changed there. They have electricty all the time, and they have fridges and gas stoves. Used to be all they had was wood stoves to cook on and little bitty houses. now they have good sized homes and quite modern kitchens. Leticia used a blender.... Had beans and sopa and torts with Lupe and Carlos. Then we went over to Leticia's where we knew she was making lunch. SHe served rice with broccoli and cauliflower in it, potatoes, and beans, and torts. We were stuffed by the time we were done! Over to the mission house where almost everyone landed on the beds and sacked out for a while. It was HOT there in Magua! But beautiful.... oh the views.... vast mountain canyons.... blooming bouganvilla.... saw some lovely yellow calla lillies....
The last part of the road to maguarichi is like the whole road used to be. The children didn't know if they would have survived! Its that bumpy curvy narrow road... we did have to pull way over and let some other vehicle creep past us on the edge. For those who don't know this road, it is a road that twists and turns and goes up and down... the lowest elevation we see is around 5500 ft and the highest just over 8000 ft. Used to be we would go through rivers, now we went over on bridges. Where there used to be very long drop offs and steep cliffs, now there are guard rails. So much has improved!
Carlos and Lupe, she is a member, he is not, and one of their granddaughters, Leticia, one of her daughters came to sing for a while. ONe wonders what can one say that would encourage them to keep on and be encouraged to stay faithful? But they seem to be of good courage and were concerned about those who have become discouraged.
We left there around 4:30 and started the long winding way home. Just doesnt even seem to take a long time to get back to SJ. We stopped for ice cream. Then decided to go walking in our old neighborhood. Bought a little bit of fruit and water.
Now back here we are just catching up ...
