okay this is a bit backwards in time here...
WE had a very relaxing morning. Lazy. Then packed some things for a lunch and started out for Cusarare Falls. Its past Creel aways. Again mountain driving. Stopped in Creel cause we have service there and merv needed to make some business calls. We others sat in the plaza and bought some postcards and brochures... then on our way to the falls. Went off the main road where the sign told us to.. Paid our fare and then Merv and the three oldest took off hiking the trail to get to the falls. I was to take the sub and Erika and nicholas and find the way there by the road. I tried to follow the directions we were given but soon realized that i was not where i wanted to be. So back i went to the Tarahumara man and his son who were at the gate, and the boy came with me to show me the way. i had turned the wrong way when i got back to the main road! whatever! Anyway we bumped and lurched our way along the river and through the river and alongside the mountain on a dirt, rocky road. i guess its a road anyway. Its where the vehicles go.... Erika still isn't feeling well. Has a bad cough and her chest is starting to hurt when she coughs. Still has a little fever once in a while. Feel so bad for her. She can hardly enjoy some of this very well. Anyway i felt kind of mad inside by the time i finally got to where the others were. I was grumpy that i had had to make this drive. But we made it and it was so worth it. We still had a little hike before we got to the falls. Well these falls are advertised for tourists, but there is so little commercialization or whatever here. Almost no guard rails, you could jump right over the falls if you so desired. Joel and Andrew went and sat right at the top edge.... Many places where one could so easily slip and fall. There are 240 steps down to get to the bottom of the falls. Then we went clamoring over the rocks and pools of water and sat right at the base of the falls. It is almost the end of dry season here so there wasnt alot of water coming over. Enough to make it really pretty still though. The river here is in a narrow canyon and the sides of the canyon rise high on each side. pine trees and limestone and many huge rock formations everywhere. One could just imagine a tribe of Indians stealthily sneaking their way along through there.
stayed there for a while, then climbed out of the canyon and started our way back to SJ. Got here and went to Angelica's place. We had communicated with her and she was expecting us. Oh was it ever good to see her again!! And her son Benito and wife and little girl, Angelica's sister Luz and her husband and family were there also. WE had such a good time! They fed us torts, beans, and pan dulce. She has a beautiful house. On the inside, anyway... we promised her we would stop in again before we leave on Saturday. Luz is a nurse. Has been for years. So i asked her what i could buy for Erika to help her. She right away got her husband to go get her bag, and she listened to her lungs, took her temperature, and looked her over. She said she heard wheezing and also her pulse was elevated. Also her eyes look so sick and tired. She sent her husband to a pharmacy and got some amoxicillian and some other cold meds. Wouldnt let us pay a dime for them.... so hopefully Erika will get better soon. Another Good Day in Mexico!!!
