up early to be ready for our taxi by 7. Got to train station in plenty of time. Found Mabel and her children who are going to the border to try to get visa or permits to be in the states for several weeks. So of course the children continued with having a good time with theirs. There was also a lot of sleeping done by some of us. Back through the rugged beautiful canyon country. There was a man on the train selling popscicles and burritos and I don’t know what all. And then after a while here he came through the train dressed in more traditional Tarahumara dress dancing and jumping and twisting. Shaking a rattle of some sort. And holding something that had his music recorded on it that he was dancing to. Was quite amusing. He does this every time the train comes through I think. He gets on at one place and off at another.
The train seemed to be clipping right along and came in a bit early. The lady who we rented out AirBnB from was waiting on us at the station. She took us over to where we had parked the vehicle and then to the house. This house.... hovers between really neat and kind of ramshackle. It’s a log cabin. Nicholas kept saying it’s like Laura and Mary’s house. There is a well equipped kitchen, one shower that we need to figure out how it really works exactly, a dryer that we found out doesn’t work, a nice small living room with a sofa bed and another love seat. Another room off the living room with another sofa bed crammed into it. Then upstairs is just one big room with a futon and a double bed and a single bed. Plus a little bitty room with a sink and toilet. The blankets and sheets look and smell very clean. And the toilets and shower are clean. The house is tidy. But looks somewhat unused or slightly dusty... not sure how to describe it. Anyway, they are a very friendly nice accommodating couple who own it. She told me I can use her washing machine. But I went to a laundromat and washed up all the clothes and the strung my clothes line up outside and also hung stuff every where in here. Typical San Juanito weather of very nice and warm during the day and cold at night. So after numerous tries Joel got a fire going in the rickety stove. It sets right in front of the wooden railing of the stairs and the one side of the corner post of the railing is scarred black from getting so hot!!??!! There are 3 of these stoves in this house and I am not sure if any of them is setting a safer place than the other. And they have very limited amount of ways to control the heat. We tried to keep it from getting too hot and just let it go out during the night rather than risk keeping it going and having a fire.
We also found the huge, new since we were here, grocery store. Wow. There is almost everything you could need there. Bought some groceries for making our own breakfasts and for packing some lunches now while we spend a few days sight seeing. Bought some pollo asado. Grilled whole chicken. For supper along with a little other stuff. We all were ready for bed fairly early. It’s almost 8000 feet here in SJ so one gets tired fast and can sleep long nights. Erika has been sick. With a head cold. Sinuses hurt and she has this sick tired look in her eyes. Motrin helps for a while. Might have to start her on some antibiotic. Mervs stomach was feeling sorta icky last night. Pry from some burritos he ate yesterday... otherwise we have all been feeling quite good and been enjoying it all.
